Chapter 25 Question

What if the gamemakers had let Peeta and Katniss commit suicide? Why did they not let them in the first place?

  1. If Peeta and Katniss had been allowed to commit suicide they would have won. They would have achieved what no other tribute had succeeded in doing, outsmarting the Gamemakers and defeating all the games stood for. The Gamemakers hurriedly announced both Katniss and Peeta winners of the Games because they realized their crucial mistake. Of course, the tributes choose to live and their suicidal actions only caused them trouble and danger in their lives after the games. The Gamemakers could not willingly allow something that showed a weakness in the Capitol’s absolute power. Unfortunately for them, it was already to late and Katniss had sparked a rebellion.

  2. If Peeta and Katniss had gone through with the suicide then their would have definatly been an uprising in the Districts. Everyone has come to love this 'romantic' pair and if they were kille dthen no one would be pleased. The Capitol also needs a winner or else the point of the Game is lost. With no one having to live with the firsthand effects of the Capitols power. They would start to lose control and they changed the rules to keep the power although, they may be starting to lose it anyway.

  3. The uprising would have also occurred in the Capitol. The audience really came to love Peeta and Katniss as a pair and I don't think they're ready to break that up yet. The gamemakers do not see the bond that is shared between audience and tribute, they thought they controlled every emotion the Capitol audience would feel while watching the games. They never expected them to become close to the tributes so much as to mourn it they were to die! The audience would surely have gotten mad with the gamemakers and that does not reflect well on the stability of the Capitol's power.
