Chapter 9 Question

Here is the question for chapter 9:

Give an example of how Katniss trying to find her approach(ex. mysterious, ferocious etc.) for the first interview is similar to her trying to find her identity or anyone else for that matter. Is there any connection to the battle inside herself?

  1. I believe Katniss is still trying to find her identity since she volunteered for the games. Before the game she was against the capitol, and broke the law. She cannot show her anger at the capitol in the game however, because she would probably not get sponsors. While she is trying to find her “act” for the interview she is also trying to find her place in the game. She does not think she can win, but wants to try as hard as she can. Katniss doesn’t think she could kill Peeta in the game either, which would be an internal struggle if it came down to that.

  2. Katniss should have been spending her whole childhood finding who she was, but she was abruptly ripped out of her childhood when her father died and she became the provider for her family. In the games Katniss had to this time to decide what she wanted to represent before she died. Katniss found it difficult to pick a single facade to uphold during her interview because this personality was not just one for the games, but for herself. When Cinna, her stylists says to act herself, he was giving her advice for finding her real identity as well as her angle for the games.

  3. I think that at this point in the book there was a reemergence of the Character vs Society conflict I mentioned earlier in the blog.
