Chapter 11 Answer

The Dripping Blood- this represents the bloodbath that was sure to have taken place at the Cornucopia.

The Light and The Dark Shading- represents the double sided look at the Games. There are good and bad things happening in these first 60 seconds.

The Cornucopia- represents a landmark, somewhere that the tributes now have to point them along their way, in a sense. It becomes the 'north star' of the Games.

The Knife- represents the one that was thrown at Katniss by Foxface and it nearly killed her in these first 60 seconds.

The Canteens- represent water, cleansing, something that is dyer to their situation and is vital for their survival.

The Bird- represents the flight of the tributes as they make decisions that will kill or save them.

The Collage Faces- represent the tributes. In this mess it is almost impossible to distinguish one tribute from another. The characters are also vague at this point so they could have any personality in the world.

The Survival Supplies- represent what is needed to make it in this bloodthirsty Game.

Chapter 11 Answer

The First 60 Seconds of the Hunger Games
the watch = this represents when Katniss's conflicting emotions over Peeta set her back at the beginning of the games. Also, Katniss only had sixty seconds to take in her surroundings.

the cornucopia = this represents the momentary decision Katniss had to make over whether she was going to obey Haymitch or go for the weapons.

the black and white = Katniss is constantly at odds with the Capitol, she wants to defy them to prove they don't own her.

the red = the conflict in the story is both bloody and tricky. Red is a color of strife and pain, Katniss has to live through the Hunger Games despite these variables. Red is also the color of a rebel. Katniss and Peeta are both rebels, but when they run off their plates they see things fly by and almost forget their morals and go to the bloodbath to get weapons, this is why the red is flying past their heads in the collage.

the bow and arrows = the weapons sit in the cornucopia taunting Katniss, but she makes the decision to be smart and avoid bloodshed.

the fire =  this is Katniss' image; her character traits reflect a fiery personality. Fire can overcome anything, but must be wary of water (this is ironic because water is what keeps you alive in the Hunger Games).

the shadowy man = the audience is following Katniss throughout the Hunger Games (through the use of hidden cameras), they shadow her every move in an almost unnatural way.

the girl running = this is Katniss, off a second late after the bell is sound. She is running to escape all the lies behind her and she wishes she could run from what lies ahead of her as well. Katniss has a heart on her chest because she is fully dedicated to winning, but she is not sure in her heart that she will. Katniss also is wearing the heart as a reminder to play her lovesick girl role with Peeta.
